Why Giving to SVdP is Unique
Q. Given so many similar programs available, why should I donate to the SVdP National Vehicle Donation Program?
A. The Society of St Vincent de Paul — Fort Wayne directly serves the poor and those in need in your own community. The proceeds from your vehicle donation will provide essentials, such as food, shelter, housing, elder care, medicine, and so much more. Society volunteers strive to seek out and help those in need in countless communities throughout the United States. No work of charity is foreign to the Society.
Q. Where is the Society of St Vincent de Paul located?
A. SVdP is currently operating in 142 countries on six continents, with a membership of 690,000. There are over 146,000 members in the United States—based in more than 4,600 communities, just like Fort Wayne!
Q. Can I donate a vehicle that does not run?
A. Yes, non-running vehicles can also assist those in need.
Q. What can I claim as a tax deduction?
A. Please see your tax advisor regarding your personal situation. Generally, you can deduct the value of your vehicle, if you itemize deductions when filing your taxes.
Q. Are vehicles utilized by families in need?
A. Depending on the need, we turn your vehicle into program and service dollars, or—if it is desired by a local SVdP—your donation may provide transportation to someone, allowing them the dignity of keeping a job to support their family.
